For example, you may understand spoken French well while your grammar or reading still needs work. The test checks reading, listening, grammar and vocabulary, so you start in a group that matches your actual level.

Purchase the test online
After payment, you will automatically receive the access link by email (please check your spam folder).
Take the test
It is fully online and accessible from a computer, tablet, or smartphone.
Approximate duration: 30 to 45 minutes.
Receive your results
Once the test is completed, we will email you your level along with personalized recommendations.

What happens after the test?
After the placement test
As soon as you buy the test, you receive your $20 promo code by email. Once you finish the test, we send you your level and our course recommendation.
All that’s left is to choose your general French session: in a group of 6 people maximum or in private lessons. The promo code applies when you register.

- Placement test or Ev@lang: which one should I choose?
It depends on your goal.
Want to take a French course? Take the placement test (CAD $20, levels A1 to B2). It helps us choose your course and group.
Preparing for the TCF, TEF or DELF-DALF? Take Ev@lang (CAD $30, levels A1 to C2). It shows which exam level to prepare for.
- I’m a beginner. Do I need to take a test?
No. If you have never studied French, no test is needed: register directly for Level A1.1, designed for new learners.
- What happens to the $20 I pay for the placement test?
It comes back to you as a $20 promo code on your course. The code arrives by email right after you buy the test, with a link showing where to use it.
- How long does the test take?
The placement test takes 30 to 45 minutes. It is online and works on a computer, tablet or smartphone.
Ev@lang has 3 modules (listening, reading, grammar and vocabulary) and takes up to about 35 minutes.
- How do I access Ev@lang?
Once your payment is confirmed, you receive a unique access code. Take the test on a computer, with headphones and a stable internet connection.
- When will I get my results?
With Ev@lang, your level appears as soon as you finish the test.
For the placement test, we email you your level along with our course recommendations.
- Can I use Ev@lang for immigration?
No. Ev@lang and an official exam are two different tools.
Ev@lang is a level check: for CAD $30, it shows where you stand and which exam you can aim for. Its results can’t be used for immigration, citizenship, university admission or any other official procedure.
What immigration authorities accept is the result of an official exam: TEF Canada or TCF Canada for Express Entry; for citizenship and Québec programs, DELF-DALF is accepted too.
Ev@lang comes first, so you prepare for the right exam at the right level.
- Do the tests give an official certificate?
No. Neither test is an official certification. The placement test guides you to the right course; Ev@lang shows your level and which exam to prepare for.
For an official result (a TEF or TCF certificate of results, a DELF-DALF diploma), you need to take an official exam. CECFQ is an accredited TEF test centre and an affiliated DELF-DALF exam centre.
- What level do I need to prepare for an exam?
Exam preparation starts at level A2. Below that, we recommend starting with our general French courses.
